Tonight is my last evening in Hawaii.
As I was doing a little shopping for my boys I panicked when I realized what time it was! It was almost 6 p.m. Time to claim a spot on the beach and watch the sunset. I hurried through the pleasantries with the shop keeper, paid for my items, shoved them into my bag and then, as gracefully as possible, made my way to the beach without running. For the last three nights I have gone to Starbucks to get a latte to enjoy as the sun set, but there wasn’t any time for that tonight.
I plopped down into the sand, not caring that I was in a dress, and took off my sandals so my toes could enjoy the cool feeling of Hawaii sand (totally different from Oregon coast sand). And then I waited and watched as if it was the very first time I had ever seen the phenomenon of the massive sun setting. For a split second I wondered if I was putting too much pressure on the sun to entertain and amaze me. But the sun took no notice of my pressure and rose to the occasion.
And just like that I witnessed my last Hawaiian sunset.
2011 is outta here in a couple of days and while it wasn’t a bad year I am ready for it to be on its way. I feel energized and ready for 2012 even though I still have some struggles to work through with a variety of men in my life. But that’s another post on a different day (I’m thinking maybe Saturday).
Today I simply say Happy New Year! I hope 2012 is everything you want it to be!!
Now, I’m off to sleep so I can get up early and run one last morning in Waikiki and take full advantage of every second I have before they drag me into the shuttle to head to the airport!
