I sometimes feel as though I’m one step over THE line.
For the past three days I’ve been unable to stop thinking about signing up for the Vancouver USA Marathon.
This isn’t really crazy, except I’m already signed up and preparing to run the Timberline Marathon on June 1, 2013. The problem is (right . . . here comes my justification sentence) Timberline is a trail marathon. My FIRST trail marathon and while I’m excited about it I will not be able to gauge any improvement in my marathon ability because it’s a trail. As a general rule trails can be tougher (and Timberline is not a manicured trail its 14 miles around Timothy Lake, twice — hills, dirt, rocks, tree roots – you get the idea).
The irrationality of running Vancouver is that it is two weeks AFTER Timberline. It’s not running two marathons in 15 days that has me worked up. It’s more that the Vancouver marathon is after Timberline and I don’t know how rational it is to run the trail marathon and then 15 days later expect a good result at the street course of Vancouver. Even so. . . I’m really having a hard time letting it go.
To add to my issues — I got an email yesterday with a code to take $15 off the Vancouver marathon — bringing the cost down to a respectable (?) $75. The code is valid until March 15th so I’ve got a few days to come to my senses but I so want to jump off this cliff.
Not sure what I’m going to do.
